• The Burru and Kumina people (descendants of the
Maroons)
• In 1930s, some of the only surviving African musical
traditions in Jamaica
• Their music became known as Nyabinghi
• Thought of as traditional Rasta music, used in
ceremonies
• Drums, chanting, polyrhythms
