Kisa Gbekle Says She Is Not Interested in Dating Without Purpose*

Ghanaian actress and influencer Kisa Gbekle has said she currently has no interest in dating, explaining that she sees little value in relationships that are based mainly on sexual connection.

Speaking in an interview with Nana Romeo on Atuu, she rejected suggestions that being unmarried means she is missing out. She questioned what a partner could add to her life beyond intimacy and expressed doubts about the importance often placed on companionship.

Gbekle also made it clear that if she eventually decides to marry, it would be on her own terms, including a commitment to abstinence before marriage. She suggested that many men are more focused on short-term relationships rather than long-term commitment.

“I am single but not searching. If I get a man, what would the person do for me aside sexual intercourse? ‘How are you, I’m fine. How did you sleep? My son does that every day! If God permits and I get someone who wants to marry me, I will go for it.

“But for just casual sexual intercourse, because I’ve done that several times and given birth from it, I’m not interested in all of those things again,” Kisa Gbekle stated.

That morning felt different.

It was our one year anniversary.

I woke up early. The room was quiet. The air felt still, like heaven was watching.

I slipped out of bed and knelt down.

“Thank You, Lord,” I whispered, lifting my hands slowly. “Thank You for how far You have brought me.”

Was the journey smooth?

No.

But I still thanked Him. Because I believed God was still in my story… even when I did not understand it. Tears gathered in my eyes as I worshipped softly.

“Thank You for my marriage… thank You for my husband…”

The door opened. I did not turn immediately. I thought he would join me. Maybe today would be different. Maybe today… he would be soft.

I heard his footsteps. Then the sound of something dropping on the bed. His journal. His pen.

Silence followed. Heavy silence. I opened my eyes slowly and turned. Pastor John Anthony stood there. Looking at me. Not smiling. Not pleased. Just watching.

I quickly adjusted myself and knelt properly.

“Good morning, sir,” I said gently.

He did not answer at first. Then his voice came… cold.

“And what is good about the morning?”

My heart skipped. I forced a small smile.

“It is our anniversary today, sir,” I said carefully. “Congratulations to us.”

I waited. Maybe he would smile. Maybe he would say something kind. But instead… his face tightened.

“Congratulations to you,” he said sharply. “Not to me.”

The words hit me like a slap. My smile faded.

“Sir…?” I whispered.

He stepped closer.

“Where is the evidence of this marriage?” he asked, his voice rising. “One year… and nothing to show for it.”

My throat went dry. I could not speak.

“No child,” he continued. “Not even a sign.”

Tears began to gather in my eyes.

“And you are here celebrating,” he added, his tone filled with disgust. “Do you even think at all?”

I felt something break inside me.

“I… I am trying…” I said softly.

“Trying?” he snapped. “Trying what exactly?” His eyes burned into mine. “Do you know what my ministry needs?” he continued. “A child. A son. Someone to carry my name.”

Each word felt heavier than the last.

“And what have you given me?” he said. “Nothing.”

My tears fell freely now.

“You just sit there like everything is fine,” he went on. “Does your barren state not bother you?”

The word hit me hard.

Barren.

I felt it echo in my head.

“Or maybe you are comfortable like this,” he added with a bitter laugh. “A useless wife with empty hands.”

I gasped softly.

“People are watching me,” he continued. “They are expecting results. A man of God without a child? What kind of story is that?”

I could not hold it anymore.

My tears poured like water. Still on my knees. Still looking at the man I once called my answered prayer.

“Sir… please…” I whispered, my voice shaking.

But he did not stop.

“Maybe I made a mistake,” he said quietly.

Those words…They cut deeper than anything else. I lowered my head. I did not know when my body started shaking.

All my prayers.

All my hope.

All my faith.

In that moment… it felt like nothing.

He hissed loudly. The sound filled the room. Then he turned and walked past me. Like I was nothing. Like I was not breaking right in front of him.

“Do not make me late for church,” he said from behind me. “When you are done crying, go and dress up.”

His voice was normal again. Cold. Controlled. “We have a service to lead.”

The door opened. Then closed. And I was left alone. Still on my knees. Still crying. My anniversary morning… Became a moment I would never forget. Because for the first time… I did not just feel pain.

I felt empty.

My mom only had one eye. I hated her… she was such an embarrassment. My mom ran a small shop at a flea market. She collected little weeds and such to sell… anything for the money we needed she was such an embarrassment. There was this one day during elementary school.

I remember that it was field day, and my mom came. I was so embarrassed. How could she do this to me? I threw her a hateful look and ran out. The next day at school… “Your mom only has one eye?!” and they taunted me.

I wished that my mom would just disappear from this world so I said to my mom, “Mom, why don’t you have the other eye?! You’re only going to make me a laughingstock. Why don’t you just die?” My mom did not respond. I guess I felt a little bad, but at the same time, it felt good to think that I had said what I’d wanted to say all this time. Maybe it was because my mom hadn’t punished me, but I didn’t think that I had hurt her feelings very badly.

That night… I woke up, and went to the kitchen to get a glass of water. My mom was crying there, so quietly, as if she was afraid that she might wake me. I took a look at her, and then turned away. Because of the thing I had said to her earlier, there was something pinching at me in the corner of my heart. Even so, I hated my mother who was crying out of her one eye. So I told myself that I would grow up and become successful, because I hated my one-eyed mom and our desperate poverty.

Then I studied really hard. I left my mother and came to Seoul and studied, and got accepted in the Seoul University with all the confidence I had. Then, I got married. I bought a house of my own. Then I had kids, too. Now I’m living happily as a successful man. I like it here because it’s a place that doesn’t remind me of my mom.

This happiness was getting bigger and bigger, when someone unexpected came to see me “What?! Who’s this?!” It was my mother… Still with her one eye. It felt as if the whole sky was falling apart on me. My little girl ran away, scared of my mom’s eye. And I asked her, “Who are you? I don’t know you!!” as if I tried to make that real. I screamed at her “How dare you come to my house and scare my daughter! Get out of here now!!” And to this, my mother quietly answered, “oh, I’m so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address,” and she disappeared. Thank goodness… she doesn’t recognize me. I was quite relieved. I told myself that I wasn’t going to care, or think about this for the rest of my life.

Then a wave of relief came upon me… one day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house. I lied to my wife saying that I was going on a business trip. After the reunion, I went down to the old shack, that I used to call a house…just out of curiosity there, I found my mother fallen on the cold ground. But I did not shed a single tear. She had a piece of paper in her hand…. it was a letter to me.

She wrote:

My son, I think my life has been long enough now. And… I won’t visit Seoul anymore… but would it be too much to ask if I wanted you to come visit me once in a while? I miss you so much. And I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I decided not to go to the school…. For you… I’m sorry that I only have one eye, and I was an embarrassment for you. You see, when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn’t stand watching you having to grow up with only one eye… so I gave you mine… I was so proud of my son that was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye. I was never upset at you for anything you did. The couple times that you were angry with me. I thought to myself, ‘it’s because he loves me.’ I miss the times when you were still young around me. I miss you so much. I love you. You mean the world to me.

My World Shattered. I hated the person who only lived for me . I cried for My Mother, I didn’t know of any way that will make up for my worst deeds…

 

Moral: Never Ever hate anyone for their disabilities. Never disrespect your parents, don’t ignore and under estimate their sacrifices. They give us life, they raise us better than they had been, they give and keep trying to give better than they ever had. They never wish unwell for their kids even in their wildest dreams. They always try showing right path and being motivator. Parents give up all for kids, forgive all mistakes made by kids. There is no way to repay what they done for kids, all we can do is try giving what they need and it is just time, love and respect.

I planned a trip with my boyfriend and he showed up with four children

All jokes aside, it is about time we told men to get serious. This thing is no longer funny. If laws have to be made, let them be made. If prayers have to be said, let them be said. If libation has to be poured at crossroads, pour it. Whatever it takes, something must be done. Because what some men are doing to women’s emotions is reckless, careless, and deeply unfair.

I’d been talking to this man for a while. It wasn’t love at first. We were friends who called once in a while to check on each other or watched each other’s status and commented. One day I posted a photo on my status and he commented, “What will a man like me do to win a woman like you?” 

I didn’t fall for that antics but I thought it was an interesting way to propose to a woman so I gave him a long thread to see what he would do with it. A week to his birthday, he told me he wanted us to go on a trip and I happily accepted. I chose the place. He gave me money to book the place.
